Porcelain tile (a man made product) doesn’t usually attract and hold as much soil as grout channels or stone surfaces. The Tile & Grout Cleaning Process
There are a few steps to the tile and grout cleaning process. Here’s a brief look at what you can expect if you’re having this service in your home.
Following a thorough inspection, a cleaning agent is applied to the surface of the tile and grout channels. This cleaning agent loosens and begins to break up soil deposits.
Before the steam cleaning begins, the grout lines and tile surface will be agitated to ensure the cleaning agent is getting to all the places it should be. Sometimes a machine is used for this step, other times it is done by hand. Your technician will make that determination based off the type of tile or stone cleaning you’re having done and the condition of your hard floors.
A combination of steam and extraction are used for the actual cleaning. The high pressure steam lifts the soil from deep down areas and the vacuum extracts the steam and soil back to the waste tank on the truck. There is a common misconception that water is “recycled” or “re-used” by steam cleaners. This is not true for Carter’s. Only fresh water is used for any steam cleaning process. Any dirty water is sent to a waste tank on the truck and disposed of properly.
After the tile cleaning is complete, large air movers are used to circulate air. At this point a sealant can be applied if the homeowner chooses. Carter’s offers a variety of grout and stone sealants. In some cases, a grout color sealant can be applied to update the look of an older tile with dark grout or permanently discolored grout.
